uPVC gutter: common questions

Last updated

Answers to common questions about uPVC rain gutters.

Is a uPVC gutter better than a metal gutter?

uPVC does not rust, and it is not affected by salty coastal air. Its smooth surface helps water and dirt flow away, and it needs little maintenance. A galvanised iron (GI) gutter can rust and leak at the joints over time.

Is a uPVC gutter suitable for all types of building?

Yes, as long as there are enough discharge outlets. What matters is the number of outlets, not the size of the gutter.

Will leaves and debris block the gutter?

A debris trap stops leaves at the outlet. It is better to stop debris there than to let it enter and clog the rainwater downpipe.

Which bracket should I use?

  • Adjustable bracket: solves levelling problems when the fascia board is not straight, and is easy to install.
  • Internal bracket: gives a neat, clean look.
  • External bracket: for normal use.

Why does a gutter warp or come apart at the joints?

  • Warping is mainly caused by the fascia board. Place gutter brackets every 600 mm along the gutter run to support the whole system.
  • Joints coming apart depends on how the gutter is installed. The gutter run needs room for thermal movement: follow the maker’s installation guidance.

Is uPVC gutter brittle?

No. Sunlight is not a problem for it.

Which gutter do we supply?

We stock the Arensi Marley F300 gutter in white, with all 14 parts of the system. Other gutters are available on indent order.
